NABSSAR News
NABSSAR has made some sudden changes.
NABSSAR has made some sudden changes.
- There will be no more Open Registration, from any other registry, as of September 1st, 2023! All submissions must be postmarked before this date. The registry will be 100% closed to North American members.
- There is no more "blemish" allowance on black sheep. All black lambs must be solid black to be able to be registered. Previously, you were able to register a lamb with a white or grey mismark or blemish that was singular and 4 inches or smaller. Lambs must now be completely black, no other color is allowed. Currently, this does not apply to white lambs with a birthmark or somatic mutation.
- Lastly, breeder beware! If any of your sheep are found out to be spotted carriers, it is very likely that they will be "black listed" and all future offspring applications to register will be rejected! This could severely limit your stock and could force you to cull your currently registered stock, as they will loose breeding rights, basically.
Registry News
There are four registry associations for the Babydoll Southdown. This is a very quick run down on them.
There are four registry associations for the Babydoll Southdown. This is a very quick run down on them.
- OEBSR. The original registry. Under new ownership. All colors accepted, 24" and shorter. Privately owned and run, 2-6 week turn around time.
Olde English Babydoll Southdown Sheep Registry- https://www.oldeenglishbabydollregistry.com/ - NABSSAR. The second registry created for white & black sheep, but excluding spotted sheep. White or black only, 26" and shorter. Member run, paperwork is processed by a separate company resulting in 1-3 week turn around time.
North American Babydoll Southdown Sheep Association & Registry- http://nabssar.org/ - BSSBA. The third registry created when the first was having serious problems with processing paperwork. All colors accepted, 24" and shorter. Member run, paperwork is processed by a separate company resulting in 1-3 week turn around time. There is a breed up program to get unregistered sheep's offspring registered after several generations.
Babydoll Southdown Sheep Breeders Association/International- https://www.bssbainternational.net/ - BSRA. The fourth registry created when the third was found to not be registered with the state as a nonprofit business and issues with the breed up program introducing mutts. All colors accepted, 24" and shorter. Member run, paperwork is processed by a separate company resulting in 1-2 week turn around time.

Bottle Baby Lambs
Lambs will only be pulled when a buyer is ready to pick up the lamb(s). It is the buyers responsibility to transfer the lamb over to the bottle. No lambs can be sold as bottle lambs after 1wk of age. Bottle lambs need the new owners to give them their two CDT vaccines at 3-4 weeks of age & a follow up booster in 3wks. No supplies come with the lamb. REGISTRATION We have Triple & Quadruple Registered (NABSSAR, OEBSR, BSSBA & BSR) ewes and rams. If registration is requested, please specify which registry you would like when you send in your deposit. Certificate of Registration (CoR) takes 2-3 weeks for NABSSAR, BSRA & BSSBA and 3-12 weeks for OEBSR to arrive. If your lamb's CoR has not arrived yet, you will receive copies of the application. OUT-OF-STATE SALES All out of state purchases will need a Certificate of Health by a Virginia veterinarian. The price of a Certificate of Health is roughly $100, depending on which vet is available, and is for up to 4 sheep going to the same location at the same time. It is additional to the lamb purchase price. Lambs must be picked up within 30 days of the vet issued certificate. Failure to do so means you need to pay for a new inspection & certificate. Lambs purchased out of state must be fully paid for before leaving the property. Transportation arrangements and payments to the transporter are the buyer's responsibility. I have used Jonathan Lippert, on Facebook, several times when buying & selling lambs & adults. I have used Blarney Heights Transport, on Facebook, once for lambs from California. Microchipping is available for all lambs! ︎These chips are ISO certified & recognized worldwide. They can be picked up by any universal scanner. No chip will come registered, as there is no livestock chip database, they are all cat/dog based and vary in cost & in what they offer. That is the buyer's responsibility, if they choose to do so. I am offering chipping as buyer protection & personal ID. If the sheep is resold, buyer can be 100% sure it's the same individual. The cost to register a chip is $26.95 per chip. This is for life. Each chipped animal will come with a Registration Card that will tell you how & where to register the chip. ︎Each chip is $7. There is no extra or hidden fee for the chipping process. These prices are subject to change based on the producing company. |
